the kick

I think we've hit a milestone in our pregnancy! Last night, for the first time, we were able to see the baby kick. I laid down, and Chris could see a little "poof" when the baby kicked. How incredible! I'm beginning to feel the kicks a little more frequently, but not very powerful yet (which I'm thankful for).

We went to a young adult picnic on Sunday (see the picture below) and I've now found that the maternity shorts with the panels around the whole waist are unbelievably H-O-T! This could be a long summer! So, here's a more flattering, one week short of six month picture.

watch out

We have finally finished our kitchen floors...except for the baseboards and doorways. And, I can proudly say that I have now learned (and successfully, at that) how to use a compound miter saw (picture number two) and a jig saw (picture number three). Baby Mayes will be proud of his/her momma!

we're having a.....

SURPRISE! We made it through our 20-week sonogram today without finding out. The ultrasound tech did include the gender on the video tape and gave us a still picture, but she put the picture in an envelope. It's killing us not to peek. But, we're gonna stay strong. The baby is 14 ounces and everything looks FANTASTIC (I'm already a proud mama). We watched the baby for about 10-20 minutes (or it felt like that long)....two arms, two hands, two legs, two feet, two eyes....in fact, the sonogram pictures of the face and feet are below. The first one shows the face, as if the baby were looking at you. The second one shows the feet. The third one is a picture of the baby face down. You can make out the head on the right, facing down...and the spine coming from the head. Unbelievable! And, while we were watching him/her, we got to see him/her try to suck and move his/her tongue like he/she was licking something. (You can kind of see the lips, open a bit, toward the bottom of the third picture.) Oh, the heartbeat was 142 beats per minute, which is right where it should be. And, as of right now, if you took 100 babies and compared them in height and weight....ours would be right at 54! So, we're moving along just perfectly!Everything's right on target! We go back in four weeks, then four more weeks....then we start every week. :)
